How to download your Instagram data

Follow these steps exactly — export may take hours to days

    Open Meta Accounts Center

    Visit accountscenter.facebook.com or go to Instagram → Settings → Accounts Center → Your information and permissions → Download your information.

    Choose "Export to device"

    Select your Instagram account, then tap Export to device. Do not choose "Export to external service" — that sends your data to a third party.

    Set Customize information → All available information

    Under Customize information, leave it at All available information so the export includes reels, stories, DMs, likes, searches, and ad data.

    Pick a Date range

    All time gives the most complete picture. Last year is faster to download and still shows your recent habits. Choose based on what you want to see.

    Set Format to JSON — this is critical

    The default is HTML, which this tool cannot read. Tap Format → JSON. This analyzer only works with the JSON export.

    ⚠️ HTML exports will not work here. You must change this to JSON.

    Tap "Start export" and wait

    Instagram will send an email to your account email when the file is ready. This can take anywhere from a few hours to several days depending on your account size and Instagram's queue.

    ⏳ Large accounts or "All time" exports may take 1–3 days. Check your spam folder if you don't see the email.
